DRIVING LESSONS
Chevron provides practical driving lessons which
include training and assessment in the following areas:
- Car controls eg. mirrors, lights, indicators, wipers
- Vehicle operation eg. pedals, turning, merging, roundabouts
- Manoeuvres eg. reverse park, u-turn, hill starts
- General driving skills and application of the road rules
- Defensive driving skills eg. steering, braking, hazards, posture
PRICE: The fee for a one hour driving lesson is $55.00

We will do a full assessment of your driving skills during the first lesson and you will receive lots of feedback on just how well you are progressing. A written record of your driving skills is completed and adjusted after each lesson.

Pre-test training and assessment is offered to all students. Students often ask us to fine-tune their driving skills and to prepare them thoroughly for the 30 minute driving test. We also give refresher lessons to students who already hold a current licence but require further driver training.

Driving lessons are generally taken between 7.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday. We can arrange to pick you up from home and drop you off at school or work – or vice-versa.

The first step is to get your learner licence - you will need to provide your learner licence number when you book a driving lesson. You will also be required to produce your current learner licence at the beginning of every lesson.

HOW DO I GET A LEARNER LICENCE?

You may apply for a learner licence when you are 16 years or older. We recommend you read Your keys to driving in Queensland to help you understand the Australian Road Rules and the Queensland driver licensing system. This booklet is available at newsagents, Queensland Transport centres and also online at www.transport.qld.gov.au

A learner licence is issued when you:

  • complete an application form provided by Queensland Transport;
  • take this form and proof of identity to your local Queensland Transport centre;
  • and successfully complete the written road rules test

We also provide tuition to help you understand the Australian road rules and to prepare you for the written test.

TRAINING VEHICLES

Chevron Driving School provides air-conditioned, late model cars fitted with dual-controls for maximum safety.

L plates are clearly displayed at the front and back of all the cars and a our rooftop sign lets other drivers know this is a driver training vehicle.

All cars are inspected for safety by Queensland Transport examiners prior to going out on each driving test. Annual inspections on all training vehicles are carried out by Queensland Transport inspectors to ensure the dual-controls work properly and the vehicle operations are in good working order.

DRIVING TESTS

You are eligible to take the practical driving test when you:

  • are 17 years or older
  • have held your learner licence for twelve months or more

Our driver trainers will prepare you thoroughly for the 30 minute driving test so you know exactly what to expect. When you are ready to do a test we will arrange a test time with Queensland Transport. Tests are carried out at the Southport, Helensvale and Bermuda St, Burleigh Waters testing centres.

Chevron Driving School has tests already pre-booked with Queensland Transport – this allows students with competent driving skills to take advantage of an early test.

During the test your driving skills will be assessed by a Queensland Transport examiner. After the test you will receive feedback on your driving ability and given a copy of the Driving Assessment Report. When you pass your driving test you then purchase your Driver's Licence from the testing centre.
